New cars per click: Mercedes starts selling on the Internet

Since the end of July, Daimler Mercedes-Benz has been selling new cars via the Internet - throughout Germany and for direct sale. This makes Daimler a pioneer among German automakers, who in the past have offered new car sales on the Internet only sporadically and in test projects.

In the new online store, interested parties in Germany can buy preconfigured new Mercedes-Benz vehicles directly. Ola Källenius, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG, responsible for Mercedes-Benz Cars Sales, explains the step as follows: "Customers want to be able to contact a premium brand anywhere, anytime. They expect more and more digital information and interaction possibilities. With our nationwide Mercedes-Benz online store, we are fulfilling precisely these customer wishes and taking an important step towards the sales of the future".

Daimler emphasizes that the implementation of the new online offer was carried out in close cooperation with the existing dealer network, and that the additional offer could help to establish new contacts between branches and contractual partners and to reach interested parties. The offer is designed to enable interested parties to arrange test drives with comparable models at a dealer of their choice. The collection of a vehicle ordered online is also covered by the dealer network.

In addition to direct purchase, financing or leasing is also offered through Mercedes-Benz Bank. A new feature is the option of using a video ID system via webcam, which supplements the existing ID procedure of Deutsche Post.
